What Coins Can You Mine on ViaBTC? Complete Supported Coins Guide
2026-09-23 09:17

ViaBTC offers six direct proof-of-work (PoW) mining pools: Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Litecoin (LTC), Zcash (ZEC), Dash (DASH), and Kaspa (KAS). Eligible BTC miners can also earn Namecoin (NMC) and Fractal Bitcoin (FB) through merged mining, while eligible LTC miners can earn Dogecoin (DOGE), Bells (BELLS), Pepecoin (PEP), and Dingocoin (DINGO).

The distinction is straightforward: miners connect to a direct pool using compatible hardware, while merged-mining rewards are credited alongside their BTC or LTC mining earnings without separate connections for the additional coins.

ViaBTC Supported Coins at a Glance

The table below summarizes ViaBTC’s direct pools. Select a pool that matches your hardware’s algorithm: a SHA-256 ASIC cannot be reconfigured to mine Scrypt, X11, Equihash, or kHeavyHash.

Coin Ticker Algorithm Practical mining hardware Payment methods
Bitcoin BTC SHA-256 SHA-256 ASIC PPS+, PPLNS
Bitcoin Cash BCH SHA-256 SHA-256 ASIC PPS+, PPLNS
Litecoin LTC Scrypt Scrypt ASIC PPS+, PPLNS
Zcash ZEC Equihash Zcash-compatible Equihash ASIC PPS+, PPLNS — see note below
Dash DASH X11 X11 ASIC PPS+, PPLNS
Kaspa KAS kHeavyHash kHeavyHash ASIC PPS+, PPLNS

ZEC payment-method note: ViaBTC’s ZEC announcement confirms that PPS+ was introduced on January 9, 2026. However, the pool-information overview still lists only PPLNS for ZEC. Confirm the available options under Pool → Mining Settings → Payment Method, or with ViaBTC support, before relying on a particular method.

BTC and BCH use the same mining algorithm, so compatible SHA-256 ASICs can mine either coin. They remain separate pools: configure the endpoint for the coin you want to mine.

For ZEC, ViaBTC’s mining guide includes GPU configuration instructions, while the Zcash mining guide advises using ASICs in practice. Technical compatibility does not establish economic viability: network difficulty affects expected earnings, while hardware efficiency and electricity costs affect profitability.

For KAS, ViaBTC’s mining guide specifies ASIC mining and states that GPU mining is no longer applicable on its service.

Coins Earned Through Merged Mining

Merged mining allows the same mining work to contribute to more than one compatible blockchain. Sharing an algorithm alone is not enough: the additional blockchain must support merged mining, and the pool must implement it.

On ViaBTC, miners using PPS+ or PPLNS in the BTC or LTC pools can receive the following additional coins, according to the merged-mining documentation.

Pool you connect to Additional merged-mining rewards
Bitcoin (BTC) Namecoin (NMC), Fractal Bitcoin (FB)
Litecoin (LTC) Dogecoin (DOGE), Bells (BELLS), Pepecoin (PEP), Dingocoin (DINGO)

DOGE, BELLS, PEP, and DINGO share Litecoin’s Scrypt algorithm and support merged mining through ViaBTC. A miner connected to the LTC pool with a compatible Scrypt ASIC does not need four additional pool connections or additional mining hardware to earn these coins.

LTC merged-mining rewards use PPLNS, whether the miner selects PPS+ or PPLNS for LTC itself. The additional reward amounts therefore vary; choosing PPS+ for LTC does not make the merged-mining rewards PPS-based. See the LTC merged-mining tutorial for the distribution rules.

ViaBTC currently lists BTC and LTC as its merged-mining parent pools; BCH is not listed as providing additional merged-mining rewards.

How to Choose a Coin to Mine

Start with hardware compatibility. Your ASIC’s algorithm determines which pools it can use. SHA-256 hardware can mine BTC or BCH; Scrypt hardware can mine LTC and its supported merged-mining coins. DASH, ZEC, and KAS require hardware compatible with X11, Zcash’s Equihash implementation, and kHeavyHash respectively.

Distinguish switching coins from switching algorithms. Moving between BTC and BCH can use the same compatible ASIC with a different pool configuration. Moving between incompatible algorithms generally requires different ASIC hardware.

Compare costs and expected earnings. Consider hardware efficiency, electricity rates, pool fees, and equipment costs when evaluating profitability. Network difficulty and miner rewards affect expected coin-denominated earnings. Coin prices affect the fiat value of those earnings; a change in BTC price alone does not change how much BTC your miner produces.

Review the payment method. PPS+ and PPLNS determine how the pool calculates mining earnings. Consider reward variability and the applicable ViaBTC fees, and confirm which methods are available for your chosen pool.

Use current pool statistics and a mining calculator with your own equipment and electricity inputs. Treat the result as an estimate, since network conditions, prices, and costs can change.

PPS+ vs. PPLNS

ViaBTC’s payment-method guide explains two models:

  • PPS+ (Pay Per Share Plus): Combines PPS compensation for valid shares with transaction-fee rewards distributed using PPLNS. The PPS component reduces miners’ exposure to the pool’s block-finding luck, but transaction-fee earnings can still vary.
  • PPLNS (Pay Per Last N Shares): Allocates rewards from blocks the pool actually finds according to eligible shares in its payout window. Earnings therefore fluctuate with the pool’s block-finding results and the miner’s share contribution.

Neither method guarantees a fixed profit. Compare the applicable fees and reward variability, keeping the payment method for the primary coin separate from the distribution rules for merged-mining rewards.

Check Current Pool Settings Before Connecting

Before configuring your miner, check the Mining Pools Information page and the relevant coin-specific guide for connection endpoints and hardware instructions. Confirm the payment method in your account’s mining settings, particularly where documentation differs, as noted for ZEC above.

This guide reflects the sources checked on September 23, 2026. Supported coins and pool settings may change.

FAQ

How many coins can I mine directly on ViaBTC?

ViaBTC lists six direct pools: BTC, BCH, LTC, ZEC, DASH, and KAS. BTC and LTC miners can also receive six additional assets through supported merged mining. These additional assets are not six separate pool connections.

Can I mine Dogecoin on ViaBTC?

Yes. Connect a compatible Scrypt ASIC to ViaBTC’s LTC pool and use PPS+ or PPLNS to receive DOGE through merged mining. DOGE rewards are calculated using PPLNS, including when your LTC payment method is PPS+.

Can I mine BTC and BCH with the same hardware?

Yes. Compatible SHA-256 ASICs can mine either BTC or BCH. Configure the appropriate pool endpoint for the coin you choose; connecting to one does not automatically earn both.

Does ViaBTC support GPU mining for Kaspa?

ViaBTC’s current KAS guide states that GPU mining is no longer applicable and specifies ASIC mining. Use a compatible kHeavyHash ASIC for its KAS pool.

Is Ethereum Classic still supported on ViaBTC?

No. ViaBTC discontinued ETC mining on August 4, 2026 (UTC+8). Older ETC setup guides do not indicate an active service.

Does a higher coin price mean I will mine more coins?

Not by itself. A higher price increases the fiat value of the coins earned. Expected coin output depends on factors such as your hashrate, network difficulty, miner rewards, and the pool’s payment method.
